Marine Medical Examination

Dr. Amit Kumar is a certified Canadian Marine Medical Examiner (MME). Marine medical examinations are required by Transport Canada for anyone working on a seafaring vessel in Canada. The examination process ensures that seafarers are fit for sea service (with or without limitations) in accordance with the established standards set by Transport Canada.

The evaluation will take 45 minutes to 1 hour and includes:

 

  • visual acuity

  • colour vision

  • hearing

  • complete physical exam

Upon successful completion of your exam, you will be given a copy of your medical exam, for review and issuance of a marine medical certificate. Southwell Medical Centre will submit the form to Transport Canada on your behalf. These exams are not covered by provincial healthcare, therefore you will be required to pay a fee for this appointment.

What to bring to your appointment: 

  • Government issued photo ID

  • Glasses/ contact lenses

  • List of Medications

  • Candidate Document Number (CDN). To apply for a CDN number, go to Transport Canada website.
